Fortune|SurveyMonkey Poll: in-person dining in full swing

Fortune|SurveyMonkey Poll: in-person dining in full swing

As summer approaches, Americans accelerate their return to pre-pandemic activities

The vast majority (82%) of Americans are comfortable dining in at a restaurant, as eagerness to engage in travel and social activities continue to climb into June.

  • DINE IN: 82%, +39 points from July 2020 and +11 points from the previous month
  • FLYING: 69%,  +42 points from July 2020 and +9 points from the previous month
  • PATRONIZE IN-PERSON AT A BAR: 62%, +36 points from July 2020 and +11 from the previous month
  • BIG CROWD:  59%, +39 points from July 2020 and +13 points from the previous month

Black Americans risk being left behind in the return to normal

Black Americans are much more cautious about returning to pre-Covid levels of activity. Only two-thirds (67%) are comfortable enough to dine in, compared with 87% of Whites and 85% of Hispanics. Just slightly more than half (55%) of Blacks are comfortable flying, and less than half comfortable going to bars (43%) or attending events with large crowds (44%).
