Fortune|SurveyMonkey poll: coronavirus update

In just the last week, concerns about coronavirus have spiked significantly among the American public, according to the latest Fortune|SurveyMonkey poll.

  • 69% of people are now worried they or someone in their family will be exposed, up from 50% last week
  • 79% are now worried there will be an outbreak in the U.S., up from 61% last week
  • 89% are now worried about the economic impact of coronavirus on the U.S., up from 75% last week

Fears of a recession have also jumped up, with 82% of people now saying a recession is likely to occur in the next year—up from 65% last week. A majority of people (63%) say they are worried they won't have enough money to pay their monthly bills, and a similar number (64%) say the coronavirus outbreak has disrupted their typical household spending.
